Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of ButterReel, a product of ButterSquared (“we,” “us,” or “our”), available at butterreel.buttersquared.com and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

ButterReel is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that processes cooking video URLs (YouTube and TikTok) to extract recipe data (ingredients, steps, times, servings) and generate blog post content. The Service includes tools to review and edit extracted recipes, generate and customize blog posts, and publish recipe posts to connected WordPress sites.

3. Account Registration

You must create an account to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate information during registration, maintain the security of your account credentials, and notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Service.

4. Free Trial and Subscriptions

The Service offers a free trial of 5 recipe extractions with no time limit and no credit card required. Paid subscriptions (Starter and Pro) are billed monthly in advance via Stripe. Pricing, recipe limits, and feature availability for each plan are described on our pricing page and may change with reasonable notice.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Upon cancellation, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial billing periods.

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes apply to the next billing cycle following the notice period.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• • Submit video URLs that you do not have the right to process or whose content you do not have authorization to repurpose
• • Use the Service to generate content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
• • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
• • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service beyond normal usage patterns
• • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or its output without authorization
• • Interfere with the Service's infrastructure, security, or other users' access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or engage in abusive behavior.

6. Content and Intellectual Property

Your Content

You retain ownership of the video URLs you submit and the recipe content you create using the Service. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to process and republish content derived from the videos you submit. ButterReel does not claim ownership of your recipes, blog posts, or other content generated through the Service.

AI-Generated Content

Blog posts and recipe descriptions generated by the Service are produced using AI models. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions. You are responsible for reviewing and editing all generated content before publishing. ButterReel is not liable for the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content.

Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, code, documentation, and branding, is owned by ButterSquared and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Your subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for its intended purpose.

7. WordPress Integration

The Service integrates with self-hosted WordPress sites (WordPress.org) via a plugin you install on your site. You are responsible for maintaining your WordPress site, keeping the plugin updated, and securing your API credentials. Published content is created as drafts on your WordPress site; you maintain full control over whether and when to make posts publicly visible. ButterReel is not responsible for the operation, security, or availability of your WordPress site.

8. Video Platform Compliance

ButterReel processes publicly available video content from YouTube and TikTok. You acknowledge that your use of the Service must comply with YouTube's and TikTok's respective terms of service. ButterReel processes video content solely for the purpose of extracting recipe information and does not download, store, or redistribute video files from YouTube. For TikTok videos, temporary downloads may occur during processing and are deleted upon completion.

9. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Service. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from service interruptions. Processing times may vary based on video length, complexity, and system load.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ButterSquared and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of revenue, profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that recipe extractions will be perfectly accurate, or that AI-generated content will be suitable for your specific needs.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ButterSquared and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights of video content creators.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any reason with reasonable notice. You may terminate your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Recipes and content in your account will be deleted. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) will survive.

14. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the “Last updated” date and, where practicable, by email notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you disagree with any changes, you should discontinue use of the Service.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta, Canada.
